Igloo's Porth Teigr is showing its support for Responsible Business Week, the only week dedicated to responsible business, which takes place 31 March - 4 April across the UK and is run by the charity Business in the Community.
Located in Cardiff Bay, Porth Teigr has recently become a Wales Associate of Business in the Community whereby the commercial success of an organisation is achieved in responsible ways that honour its values while protecting people and the planet. Responsible Business Week highlights the aim for organisations to inspire, equip and challenge businesses to do more to meet the world's most pressing needs.
Igloo's Porth Teigr bases its values on key FootprintR themes:
- Health, happiness and wellbeing: Investing in people and communities in order to change lives and realise potential;
- Regeneration: Investing not just in physical regeneration but in the social and economic lifeblood of urban neighbourhoods;
- Environmental Sustainability: Investing in more environmentally sustainable forms of urban development, and associated infrastructure and services;
- Urban Design: Investing in place making to create distinctive, vibrant and mixed use neighbourhoods that are urban in character
Mark Hallett, development director, igloo Regeneration commented: "Porth Teigr is one of the most significant waterfront property projects in Europe. The development is becoming a mixed-use, sustainable neighbourhood in a way that delivers long-term benefits to communities, and maximises long-term returns as neighbourhoods prosper. Being a responsible business and therefore supporting Responsible Business Week is extremely important to us.
"We conduct our business responsibly in a number of ways including commissioning and employing local suppliers and individuals as well as managing environmentally sustainable practices. By doing so, Porth Teigr's anchor tenant BBC Roath Lock Studios achieved the first ever BREEAM Outstanding certificate for an industrial building post-construction in the UK. It is also the largest building in Wales to achieve this."
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community, said: "We know that all year round, businesses of all sizes are engaged in responsible business activity that tackles societal, environmental and economic issues, and unlocks innovation and opportunity for their business in the process. But as the world emerges from recession there is a powerful new opportunity for business to do even more, and in doing so contribute to a recovery that is inclusive and sustainable. Business is a powerful movement for change and we are excited to give it the platform it needs through this week."
